Acculturation vs. Assimilation

Acculturation is the process of learning a second culture, while preserving or retaining one's original or "home" culture. This person can also be viewed as being bi-cultural. Assimilation, alternately, is the process of abandoning one's original or "home" culture in favor of a new or "host" culture.
